jūn君zǐ子zhī之xué学bì必hǎo好wèn问。wèn问yǔ与xué学,xiāng相fǔ辅ér而xíng行zhě者yě也。fēi非xué学wú无yǐ以zhì致yí疑,fēi非wèn问wú无yǐ以guǎng广shí识;hào好xué学ér而bù不qín勤wèn问,fēi非zhēn真néng能hào好xué学zhě者yě也。lǐ理míng明yǐ矣,ér而huò或bù不dá达yú于shì事;shí识qí其dà大yǐ矣,ér而huò或bù不zhī知qí其xì细,shè舍wèn问,qí其xī奚jué决yān焉?
xián贤yú于jǐ己zhě者,wèn问yān焉yǐ以pò破qí其yí疑,suǒ所wèi谓“jiù就yǒu有dào道ér而zhèng正”yě也。bù不rú如jǐ己zhě者,wèn问yān焉yǐ以qiú求yì一dé得,suǒ所wèi谓“yǐ以néng能wèn问yú于bù不néng能,yǐ以duō多wèn问yú于guǎ寡”yě也。děng等yú于jǐ己zhě者,wèn问yān焉yǐ以zī资qiē切cuō磋,suǒ所wèi谓jiāo交xiāng相wèn问nán难(nàn),shěn审wèn问ér而míng明biàn辨zhī之yě也。《shū书》bù不yún云hū乎?“hào好wèn问zé则yù裕。”mèng孟zǐ子lùn论:“qiú求fàng放xīn心”,ér而bìng并chēng称yuē曰“xué学wèn问zhī之dào道”,xué学jí即jì继yǐ以wèn问yě也。zǐ子sī思yán言“zūn尊dé德xìng性”,ér而guī归yú于“dào道wèn问xué学”,wèn问qiě且xiān先yú于xué学yě也。
gǔ古zhī之rén人xū虚zhōng中lè乐shàn善,bù不zé择shì事ér而wèn问yān焉,bù不zé择rén人ér而wèn问yān焉,qǔ取qí其yǒu有yì益yú于shēn身ér而yǐ已。shì是gù故kuáng狂fū夫zhī之yán言,shèng圣rén人zé择zhī之,chú刍ráo荛(ráo)zhī之wēi微,xiān先mín民xún询zhī之,shùn舜yǐ以tiān天zǐ子ér而xún询yú于pǐ匹fū夫,yǐ以dà大zhī知ér而chá察jí及ěr迩yán言,fēi非gǒu苟wèi为qiān谦,chéng诚qǔ取shàn善zhī之hóng弘yě也。sān三dài代ér而xià下,yǒu有xué学ér而wú无wèn问,péng朋yǒu友zhī之jiāo交,zhì至yú于quàn劝shàn善guī规guò过zú足yǐ矣,qí其yǐ以yì义lǐ理xiāng相zī咨fǎng访,zī孜zī孜yān焉wéi唯jìn进xiū修shì是jí急,wèi未zhī之duō多jiàn见yě也,kuàng况liú流sú俗hū乎?
shì是jǐ己ér而fēi非rén人,sú俗zhī之tóng同bìng病。xué学yǒu有wèi未dá达,qiáng强yǐ以wéi为zhī知;lǐ理yǒu有wèi未ān安,wàng妄yǐ以yì臆dù度。rú如shì是,zé则zhōng终shēn身jǐ几wú无kě可wèn问zhī之shì事。xián贤yú于jǐ己zhě者,jì忌zhī之ér而bú不yuàn愿wèn问yān焉;bù不rú如jǐ己zhě者,qīng轻zhī之ér而bú不xiè屑wèn问yān焉;děng等yú于jǐ己zhě者,xiá狎xiázhī之ér而bù不gān甘wèn问yān焉,rú如shì是,zé则tiān天xià下jǐ几wú无kě可wèn问zhī之rén人。rén人bù不zú足fú服yǐ矣,shì事wú无kě可yí疑yǐ矣,cǐ此wéi唯shī师xīn心zì自yòng用ěr耳。fū夫zì自yòng用,qí其xiǎo小zhě者yě也;zì自zhī知qí其lòu陋ér而jǐn谨hù护qí其shī失,níng宁shǐ使xué学zhōng终bú不jìn进,bú不yù欲xū虚yǐ以xià下rén人,cǐ此wéi为hài害yú于xīn心shù术zhě者dà大,ér而dǎo蹈zhī之zhě者cháng常shí十zhī之bā八jiǔ九。
bù不rán然,zé则suǒ所wèn问fēi非suǒ所xué学yān焉:xún询tiān天xià下zhī之yì异wén文bǐ鄙shì事yǐ以kuài快yán言lùn论;shèn甚qiě且xīn心zhī之suǒ所yǐ已míng明zhě者,wèn问zhī之rén人yǐ以shì试qí其néng能,shì事zhī之zhì至nán难jiě解zhě者,wèn问zhī之rén人yǐ以qióng穷qí其duǎn短。ér而fēi非shì是zhě者,suī虽yǒu有qiè切yú于shēn身xīn心xìng性mìng命zhī之shì事,kě可yǐ以shōu收qǔ取shàn善zhī之yì益,qiú求yì一qū屈jǐ己yān焉ér而bù不kě可dé得yě也。jiē嗟hū乎!xué学zhī之suǒ所yǐ以bù不néng能jǐ几(jī)yú于gǔ古zhě者,fēi非cǐ此zhī之yóu由hū乎?
qiě且fū夫bù不hǎo好wèn问zhě者,yóu由xīn心bù不néng能xū虚yě也;xīn心zhī之bù不xū虚,yóu由hào好xué学zhī之bù不chéng诚yě也。yì亦fēi非bù不qián潜xīn心zhuān专lì力zhī之dí敌,qí其xué学fēi非gǔ古rén人zhī之xué学,qí其hǎo好yì亦fēi非gǔ古rén人zhī之hǎo好yě也,bù不néng能wèn问yí宜yě也。
zhì智zhě者qiān千lǜ虑,bì必yǒu有yì一shī失。shèng圣rén人suǒ所bù不zhī知,wèi未bì必bú不wèi为yú愚rén人zhī之suǒ所zhī知yě也;yú愚rén人zhī之suǒ所néng能,wèi未bì必fēi非shèng圣rén人zhī之suǒ所bù不néng能yě也。lǐ理wú无zhuān专zài在,ér而xué学wú无zhǐ止jìng境yě也,rán然zé则wèn问kě可shǎo少yē耶?《zhōu周lǐ礼》,wài外cháo朝yǐ以xún询wàn万mín民,guó国zhī之zhèng政shì事shàng尚wèn问jí及shù庶rén人,shì是gù故guì贵kě可yǐ以wèn问jiàn贱,xián贤kě可yǐ以wèn问bú不xiào肖,ér而lǎo老kě可yǐ以wèn问yòu幼,wéi唯dào道zhī之suǒ所chéng成ér而yǐ已yǐ矣。
kǒng孔wén文zǐ子bù不chǐ耻xià下wèn问,fū夫zǐ子xián贤zhī之。gǔ古rén人yǐ以wèn问wèi为měi美dé德,ér而bìng并bú不jiàn见qí其yǒu有kě可chǐ耻yě也,hòu后zhī之jūn君zǐ子fǎn反zhēng争yǐ以wèn问wèi为chǐ耻,rán然zé则gǔ古rén人suǒ所shēn深chǐ耻zhě者,hòu后shì世qiě且xíng行zhī之ér而bù不yǐ以wéi为chǐ耻zhě者duō多yǐ矣,bēi悲fū夫!
